TANGAINA ORPHANAGE
Tangaina Orphanage children
Tangaina Orphanage is home to 40 children ages 3 and up. This is an orphanage for children who are not available for adoption.orphanage in Madagascar Once the children enter Tangaina, they remain there until they reach 18 years old or finish their upper education.

Though we would rather see these children with their own families getting all the love and attention every child needs, we do have the next best thing. All the children grow up together at Tangaina, none are chosen while others wait. They know this and in many ways function as a family. That said, there are still many unmet needs we are trying to help with, such as food, books, clothing, bedding, safety, tutors, job skills, etc.

Food preparation at the orphanage. When we first started assisting the children living at Tangaina, there was never enough food, bedding or time for education. The children were hungry and even the very young ones had to work to supplement their meals rather than attend school. Because of your generosity, every year we have been able to improve the nutrition offered. We hope to be able to do so this year too, despite the prices of basic food stuffs having gone up so much. Your donations allow us to provide 150 lbs. of rice each month plus meat, vegetables and fruit to grow healthy bodies and minds.
THE VOLUNTEER HOUSE
Volunteer with AOM and make a difference! The volunteer program is a great comfort to the orphans of Tangaina. With AOM providing housing, volunteers come to Madagascar at their own expense to teach English and help out at the orphanage. The extra attention and English speaking skills gained combine to make this the most popular program with the children. They literally come running to the house for their lessons.

Through volunteers we were also able to identify and fill other areas of need from dental work, to a septic system, to hiring tutors (many of the children are behind in their school work), to getting kids out the door and on their way to school.

Children at a local schoolA volunteer exposes the children to English, hope, a can-do spirit and friendship while enriching our volunteers’ lives. Every extra person loving these kids helps them grow into emotionally healthy adults. With 40 growing children there is never enough adult attention, especially for those having suffered the loss of family.
